About This Brief 

The Latinx Law Brief (“Brief”) provides a forum for the scholarly discussion of legal issues affecting Latinx communities in the United States and around the world.   

The Brief was imagined in 2020 and established in 2021 by Latinx law students. The Brief aims to foster discussion of Latin American legal issues which previously did not exist at The George Washington University Law School. It will be the fourth student run-publication at GW Law. The first issue of the Latinx Law Brief will be published in Spring 2022. 

George Washington University Law School students, professors, and practitioners are encouraged to submit articles and contribute to Latin American legal scholarship. Participation in the Brief is not for academic credit; instead, it serves as a student-run publication branch of the George Washington University Latin American Law Student Association.

Mission 

The Brief will allow law students, professors, and practitioners to discuss central issues affecting the Latinx community that often go overlooked in the legal profession. According to Hispanic National Bar Association statistics, Hispanics consisting of 18% of the U.S. population, comprise only about 4% of American lawyers. The Brief appreciates the diversity of the Latinx community in the United States, encouraging the expression of such diversity and legal discourse among different viewpoints. 

Purpose 

The purpose of the Brief is to serve as an academic forum for legal issues that affect the Latinx community and provide students with an opportunity to be published. Through discussion and scholarship, the brief seeks to inform its readers of prominent legal issues affecting Latin American communities and, as a result, improve Latinx representation in the legal field.
